Lisa Stickney, Watercolor Artist, “Nourish The Soul–Art Connects Us!
Lisa G. Mansfield (b.1964, Norwalk, CT) moved to Rockingham, Vermont in 1978, is a 1982 graduate of Bellows Falls Union High School, and a 2002 graduate of Champlain College, Burlington, Vermont, A.S. – Business Management. Lisa settled in Grafton, Vermont in 1986, where she raised two sons and worked locally. She moved to Springfield, Vermont in 2005, where she currently resides.
Lisa is a self taught artist working in a wide range of media with a concentration in watercolor. She learned basic watercolor techniques in the early 90’s through a college credit elective course led by Robert O’Brien, AWS who is a talented award winning watercolor artist (and continues to host workshops in watercolor world-wide). Lisa has always had an interest and a strong acumen for acquiring new arts and craft techniques, as a hobbyest.
After decades of work in hospitality and then property management, Lisa experienced a long journey towards solving a mystery illness, eventually diagnosed with Chronic Lyme Disease with a very long term treatment plan that continues today. Many life changes resulted, and rather than using art to simply pass the time, she found solace in art as a form of expression and as a method to release feelings of negativity, as a way to cope with these major life changes. She began using art as therapy for herself as a positive method and coping skill on her path towards healing. This experience in self discovery provided her with and understanding of the concept that creativity is not about honing skills and techniques, but it is in forming original ideas using your imagination to produce artistic work, whatever the medium. The ability to create original art comes from the mind by connecting to your heart, soul, and spirit. It is in effect, the vulnerability of feelings and truth of emotion. Art then connects you with others on a soul level through this expression.
Lisa continues to paint in watercolor. She recently began working in mixed media, which has enhanced her creativity. Lisa sold her first painting in 2016, and her work has evolved over time to a finished painting that is much looser and free. Adding mixed media to her watercolor paintings has simply enhanced the level of creativity. You will see that transformation in her work, most of which provides a message that connects with positivity, light and love. Her mixed media paintings begin with a watercolor wash and then other mediums are added, and may include acrylic, translucent glass paint, pastels, india ink, colored pencil, stamping, embossing, foil, collage technique, and more. Mixed media has added a whole new dimension with a much more interesting end result.
